STAYING AHEAD OF THE CURVE

From starting with the right genetics, farmers then need to understand how they will grow, harvest, and handle the crop. As one of the oldest commercial plant farms in Texas, Crown Grow understands that innovations in agriculture for other crops have created numerous opportunities for better cultivation, more consistent yield, as well as regenerative and sustainable practices for hemp cultivation.

SEEDS OR STARTS

We also work closely to determine if planting should initiate from seed or starts. Seeds will add growing time prior to harvest, but only a seed will produce a tap root which can create a more vigorous and higher yield plant when growing outdoors. However, until more stable seed varieties for cannabinoid production are developed and validated in the field, the variability and potential risk of poor performance or regulatory violation is higher with seed than with starts. Crown Grow encourages its farmer-partners to initiate their growing with its proven starts.

FROM OUR FARM TO YOURS

Crown Grow germinates all seeds in its vast greenhouses before planting outside to ensure the highest yields. Are the seedlings your planting, "hardened"? This is a question any farmer should understand and confirm! As a successful, commercial plant farm since 1977, Crown Grow understands the importance of healthy, high-yield, greenhouse to farm planting. This includes the latest in machine transplanting to ensure a successful, smooth transition from our greenhouses to your farm.

HARVESTING WITH CONFIDENCE

Harvesting hemp is a critical stage for CBD & CBG production. The presence of molds and mildews will lower the value of hemp floral biomass so a timely harvest is essential. There are visual clues on the hemp bud that growers should monitor - such as trichomes on the hemp bud shifting from white to milky white which may indicate its time to harvest.

AVOIDING RISKS THROUGH CONTINUAL TESTING

Weekly testing of CANNABINOID content can also inform the grower of when harvest should be initiated. This is in addition to the required THC test with the Texas Department of Agriculture. While some of the tests for CBD, cannabinoids, terpenes, pesticide residue, mold, and heavy metals can be costly - both the return on investment and failure to foresee potential issues can be significant.
For example, if 1500 lbs of biomass will be harvested on one acre, the difference between harvesting when the crop is at 10% CBD versus when the crop is at 15% CBD, can equate to significant, potential lost revenues. A 1% discrepancy in CBD content on one acre can be a $20,000 crop value difference - now equate this to a 5 to 10% discrepancy.

MUTUAL SUCCESS!

Crown Grow's frequent testing is key in making the right decision regarding harvest timing. We only succeed when our farmers succeed.
